HOSPITAL FURNITURE
Hospital furniture is an essential part of healthcare operations. Our hospital furniture range includes phlebotomy carts for laboratories and hospital ward carts. A wide selection of accessories enables customization of our products to meet your specific needs.
What things should be taken into consideration when selecting hospital furniture for sample collection? What customizations make the ward cart suitable for various needs in a hospital? Our guide will help you select the right phlebotomy or ward cart for your needs.
Guide to Choosing a Good Phlebotomy Cart
Purchasing a phlebotomy cart is a significant decision. The cart's ergonomics have a major impact on the sample collector's comfort, well-being and the speed with which they carry out their work. Furthermore, hospital furniture is in constant use and must withstand years of use and cleaning. Lastly, users and their preferences vary wildly, so finding the right phlebotomy cart can feel surprisingly challenging.
What should be taken into consideration when purchasing a sample collection cart? Here are some tips for selecting a suitable phlebotomy cart.
Identify your needs
When purchasing a new phlebotomy cart, first consider where it will be used and for what purpose. If a large number of samples are collected at the collection point daily, it’s essential to prioritize a spacious and efficient cart.
For high volume sample collection needs: Keisi or Husky cart with a large tube shelf
The Keisi and Husky phlebotomy carts, when equipped with a large tube shelf, are excellent for high-volume collection needs. The large tube shelf accommodates up to 800 tubes, significantly speeding up cart loading. Tubes can be used in full packs, which means time won't be wasted on moving the tubes around. If you prefer an open design with easy access to all supplies, the Keisi cart is a good choice.
If you prefer a customer-focused design that conceals most supplies, the Husky cart is also a good option. Both the Keisi and Husky carts are available in various models, allowing the hospital furniture to be customized to your needs. The Keisi and Husky carts are compact, though slightly larger than the following options.
Keisi cart: All supplies are visible and within reach.
Husky cart: Most supplies can be concealed.
For Tight Spaces and Smaller Sample Collection Needs: Oiva or Onni Sample Collection Cart
If the space is particularly tight and only a small number of samples needs to be collected daily, our compact and mobile Oiva sample collection cart provides a great option. The Oiva cart is often used during ward rounds, but its versatility also makes it suitable for a fixed collection point.
The Onni sample collection cart has two options, and its size falls between the Keisi, Husky, and Oiva carts. If you have limited space and prioritize customer focus, the Onni sample collection cart could be the right choice for you. The Onni carts also support the customer’s lean processes. They are compact, with accessories arranged for optimal sample collection. The Onni cart does not have the same storage capacity as the Keisi and Husky carts. Instead, it is designed to hold only necessary supplies and is not intended as a storage cart, so it requires more frequent restocking.
The compact and versatile Oiva cart is
also suitable for fixed collection points.
Choose the Onni phlebotomy cart
if space is limited and there is
no need to store supplies in the cart.
Materials and Sustainability in Hospital Furniture Selection
All our phlebotomy carts are made of steel and aluminum. They are coated with an antimicrobial powder paint that prevents bacteria from thriving on the painted surface. Durable and recyclable materials are environmentally friendly and guarantee our furniture a long service life.
Furniture and Cleanability
In hospitals and other healthcare facilities, the cleanability of hospital furniture is a key factor in purchasing decisions. The cleanability of phlebotomy carts is crucial. Every corner of the cart must be cleanable, and the materials must withstand strong chemicals, such as cleaning and disinfecting agents. All the carts mentioned above are designed with easy and effortless cleaning in mind. The painted steel and aluminum surfaces withstand autoclaving and cleaning agents well.

Guide to Customizing a Ward Cart
In hospitals, health centers, laboratories, and other healthcare facilities, a wide variety of mobile furniture is needed for transporting supplies. Needs vary according to the area of use, which is why we have developed a cart that can be fully customized for different uses. Below are examples of how the cart can be equipped for different needs.
Cannulation and Wound Care Carts: Oiva and Saaga
For cannulation and wound care, the Oiva ward cart with 60 mm and 100 mm trays is a functional solution. With the 100 mm tray, in particular, items needed for cannulation are held securely in place. In addition to the Oiva cart, our range includes the Saaga ward cart, which has two 100 mm trays and is slightly smaller than the Oiva cart. Saaga is a good option if space is tight and there is a need for two 100 mm trays. Common accessories for cannulation and wound care carts include waste bins, biohazard containers, and bottle holders for one or two bottles. We offer a small 2-liter and a large 10-liter waste bin. To optimize the available space, it’s a good idea to order two holders for biohazard containers. One biohazard container can be left without a lid, serving as a waste bin. Two biohazard container holders fit side-by-side at the front or back of the Oiva cart, while in the Saaga cart, they fit under the push handles. Accessory holders can be positioned around the tray or under the push handles on the Oiva cart. For the Saaga cart, accessories are positioned under the push handles or on the sides of the tray.
Also, consider the following accessories for optimizing the cart for cannulation and wound care needs:
- Multi-purpose file holder for organizing supplies
- Shelf bins and dividers for compartmentalizing items
The Saaga ward cart is an excellent choice when space is tight
and two 100 mm trays are needed.
Oiva offers versatility in tray depth and accessory placement.
Sample Collection Cart for Ward Rounds: Oiva
The Oiva ward cart is designed to adapt to changing sample collection needs, making it an ideal choice for laboratory rounds in wards.
Sample collection supplies require ample space, which is why a cart with three trays is recommended. Tubes and other supplies are typically lower in height than cannulation supplies, making 45 mm and 60 mm trays a practical solution for sample collection. Sample collection carts need various accessories, and the top tray should be 60 mm, as the 45 mm tray lacks a rail for attaching accessory holders. Popular accessories include holders for waste bins, biohazard containers, sample labels, and bottles for hand sanitizers and skin cleansers.
To optimize the space, consider ordering two holders for biohazard containers, with one container left open to serve as a waste bin. With the increasing popularity of mobile sample collection, an additional level for a mobile printer, tube shaker, and phone is an essential accessory for the sample collection cart. The additional level can be fitted with a tape dispenser, allowing easy tape cutting. In addition, the 3-POD stool and a magnetic holder for the stool are especially popular with sample collection carts. An adjustable-height stool supports the ergonomic work position of the sample collector and reduces back strain.
In carts for pediatric sample collection, consider adding a compartment for newborn sample cards, providing a safe and reliable solution for transporting newborn sample cards from the ward to the lab.

Medication Cart
Hospital furniture should be easy to move in order to ensure ergonomic use for employees. For this reason, our customers favor the Oiva cart for medication distribution.
The 45 mm and 60 mm trays work well for distributing medications. Dividable shelf bins are available for organizing medications on the trays. We recommend placing a silicone mat between the shelf bins and the tray to prevent noise when moving the cart. Accessories for the medication cart include holders for waste bins, biohazard containers, and hand sanitizer bottles. We offer a small 2-liter and a large 10-liter waste bin. To optimize the available space, it’s a good idea to order two holders for biohazard containers. One biohazard container can be left without a lid, serving as a waste bin. The Oiva ward cart with 45 mm and 60 mm trays is an excellent choice as a medication cart.

These values are reflected in our everyday operations as we strive to develop new and innovative product solutions to meet the needs of laboratories and healthcare facilities responsibly in Finland. Innopart Oy was founded in 2010 when Ilmo Mässeli, a manufacturer of sample collection carts, retired following requests from laboratories. This created a unique opportunity for Kimmo to enter the healthcare furniture industry. This led to the creation of Innopart’s first product, the Keisi sample collection cart. Although we have made small adjustments and developed new accessories over the years, the primary concept of the cart has remained the same.
